That sikkim is inordinately beautiful is something you know even if you have never set foot in the state or seen a single photograph of it. After all, what else could a tiny mountain kingdom set amid the Himalayas be? Luxuriant meadows, slopes a flame with rhododendrond, over 450 species of orchids, the swirling white waters of the teesta and rangeet rivers, mist- laden peaks- when it comes to counting its natural blessings, sikkim wouldn’t know where to stop. It could, equally, be the realization that it is possible to feel perfection, even if only for a fleeting moment, as you watch the mists part to reveal a distant peak and rows of prayer flags sway in the breeze as the sound of sacred chants fill the air.

Updating Software in Linux

Linux is an operating system that is in the constant process of updates and patches. Manually updating all machines can be a daunting task for a system administrator. Thankfully the user or administrator need not manually check for and download updates. Linux has a provision of automatically updating selective or all packages using what are called package managers. The package managers have a database of the software installed, their version, the internet address from where an update can be obtained, etc. rpm-based Linux flavours generally use the yum package manger while the Debian-based ones use aptget. These are basically command-line means of updating-it involves issuing a single command and configuring the config file if need be. There are GUI front ends to achieve the same. But we will just stick to the basic command line way to getting the update task done. The GUI is something you can figure out by yourself, so as usual we ll leave if for you to explore and have fun.

Oddisi

It is the classical dance form that originated in the ambience of the temples. It is a lyrical form of dance, with subtlety as its key note. The intimate relationship between oddisi poetry and music is a feature on which the aesthetics of its dance style is built. It is often referred to as a “sculturesque’ style of dance with a distinct harmony of line and movement. The history of oddisi dance dates to somewhere between 8th and the 11th century, when the kings took great pride in excelling at the arts of dance and music. It is during these centuries that inscriptions referring to devdasis, women who consociated for the worship of the deity, were carved at the temple.

Linux on a Power PC

Linux can be comfortably run on an Apple Mac, too. The scalability of Linux means that it can be used on Macs that are too old for OS x but still offer most of the nice features of the Mac OS. Linux for power pc including the 64-bit version called the G5, is available from all major distributions. Most of the distributors that we have covered also have a power pc version look for a version of their Linux for PPC or Power Pc on their site.
Many companies have found that they are able to make better use of older Mac models such as the RS/6000 or pSeries by running Linux on them and having more current hardware. Linux and PPC make for a good combination, given Linux’s stability and inherent server features. The Mac can support multiple processors and very large memory as compared to the Intel architecture.

Linux & 64-bit Computing

About 2 to 3 years ago, 64-bit CPUS made their foray into the desktop market. And have now become quite affordable Linux distributors were quick to come out with 64-bit versions of Linux. Today, many flavours of linux also come in 64-bit editors to make full use of the power of 64-bit computing. To the end user, this means faster computing, especially with graphics-heavy applications. When you visit the download site of the distributors, you may see a download that is available for x8664. the “64” means that the installer is for a 64-bit processor. The major distributions we have covered- Fedora, SUSE, Mandrivem, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Gentoo.

Backups

As every system administrator will agree, a crash in not a question of if, but when. There are just too many things that can go wrongly. Not only in offices, but also at home, backing up is a good idea. We have already explained how to make archives using the in built “tar” utility. You can either do that, or back up your important files to CD or a DVD. If you are not already doing this, please start right away!
A backup is a meaningless if it cannot be restored. If you are backing up data on a CD, ensure that the CD is not damaged-check for scratches, and always opt for a branded CD. When you make a tar file, check for the integrity of the file by uncompressing it into a folder and checking the contents. Is very important, back it up on two CDs.

The Orissa coastline is dotted with beautiful, unspoiled beaches and beach resorts that offer the adventurous their pick of water sports. At gopalpur on sea, which, to people in the know, is one of India’s prettiest beach resorts, there’s plenty of choice of adventure activity. In water sports choose between parasailing, water skiing, rowing and surfing. Much less commonly pursued in the country, but just as exciting, is yachting. Take a water safari through these islands that are the natural habitats of wild animals like crocodiles, snakes, boars and of course, the rare white crocodile. This sanctuary is made up of tiny islands formed by meandering creeks.
