The United States Government has launched a scheme to reduce the number of internet gateways used by its various departments from approximately 4,000 to a more manageable 50. The move is a response to growing concerns about online espionage and terror attacks. The move should also for simpler management and monitoring of web traffic. The trusted Internet Connection plan, as it is known, required government agencies to submit a plan for reconfiguring their networks and Internet access systems by April 15. The move is already being regarded by many analysts as “long overdue”.
